--> Getting It Right: What a Surprise!

What a Surprise!

This September, the Federal NDP will meet in Quebec for their national chinwag and policy debate.

Big union boss Buzz Hargrove is set on pulling traditional labour support out from under their feet and now another scandal is brewing.

The Trinity Spadina riding association of Olivia Chow has put forward a resolution calling for the restoration of funding for Hamas in Palestine and condemnation of Israel.

This ill-conceived claptrap coming from the wife of the NDP leader makes me wonder if Buzz Hargrove has it right.

It isn’t the first time the NDP have ended up cheering the terrorist side of the Middle East conflict, but if their convention passes the resolution, Canada could end up paying for the suicide attacks killing Israeli women and children.

That’s right – your tax dollars at work buying bomb belts and funding jihadist websites.

Hamas believes that there are no “innocent” Israelis – that they are all military targets to be destroyed along with their state. Hamas spokespeople defended Monday’s attack of a Tel Aviv café as “a natural reaction”.

There was a time when the NDP was the primary bastion of anti-corporate, pro-regulatory and big labour activists. It always painted itself as standing up for the little guy against “The Man”.

But somewhere along the way, it has lost that focus and has now meandered into radical international policy.

The best interests of unionists and the working poor are not served waging a proxy battle against the U.S. by paying for attacks on Israel.

The resolution calls for “a halt to military aid and economic trade with Israel until all the above demands are met, and that the NDP campaign for an end to the rule of apartheid laws that make Palestinians and Israeli Arabs second and third class citizens under occupation".

The biggest irony of this idiotic resolution is that the NDP seems bent on destroying the only fully-functioning democracy in the region.

Israel is a beacon in the Middle East for those who embrace freedom.

Women have rights in Israel. Labour unions aren’t outlawed. Gays are not censured or murdered. Muslims and Christians and Jews live and work side-by-side. The social safety net isn’t run by terrorists giving infant formula with one hand and lobbing rockets with the other, like Hezzbolah in Lebanon. Elected officials have to face fair and free elections.

Israel is much like B.C. would be if it were faced with constant threat from Washington State militia who still hadn’t got over the fact that they don’t own our province.

For whatever reason, Olivia Chow has decided to champion this immoral cause. Perhaps it will be the final reason Buzz will need to turn his back on his souring former party.

I will be guest hosting on CKNW over the Labour Day weekend on Saturday from 4-6pm and Sunday from 3-6pm.

As seen today in 24 Hours Daily.

Ahh Stuart . so you are outing yourself as immoral, as a supporter of mass murderers, terrorists, anti-gay, anti-women, anti freedom, anti-union HAMAS whackjobs !!

Frikk'n BRILLIANT !!

Good on ya mate, we all can see you for who and what you are. Are you going to the NDP convention and will you vote to support Olivia's motion ??

Olivia Chow has proven she is an idiot. She talks but says nothing. She supports issues but really can't give a clear reason we should agree with her. It's enough that Stephen Harper proposed them for her and the NDP to oppose. Oh, just like the Liberals.

Fan Club, please polarize the debate even more. Where is "you are either with us or against us", or "Why don't you support our troops?", or "Why do you hate freedom?".

Ahhh truthiness....

Anyone got any data (references) to back up this rant?

BTW, how many woman and children has Israel killed in the last month?

How shameful that the editors of 24 Hours allowed your racist & Anti-Arab comments to be published. You failed to mention that Israel illegally occupied Southern Lebanon for over 24 years; Israel ILLEGALLY occupied Gaza since 1967 & still occupies the West Bank. The apartheid fence is built 200 miles into Palestinian land. The Israeli army regularly uproots Palestinian fig trees, bulldozes apartment buildings, raids university campuses. You place blame on Occupied Palestine for not acheiving democracy. How can they begin to work towards democracy, when their military occupiers have made them refugees in their own land since 1967? Have you ever heard of Israeli refugees? Not all those who condemn Israel's criminal actions are on, "the terrorist side". Clearly, you value the blood of Israeli women & children more than that of their neighbours'. By failing to mention any injustice perpetrated by Israel, your readers get the impression that Israel is totally innocent of wrong-doing, and is justified in bombing the shit out of any country they so choose. This is a lie, and you are responsible for spreading it. Get another day job.

Are you on the Israeli government's payroll? What is your response to the illegal occupation of Gaza, West Bank, Southern Lebanon (to name a few) for decades? Those Palestinians who were born in Gaza or West Bank in 1967 have been refugees all of their lives. This might be hard for you, but try to use some empathy, and understand what it would be like to grow up to the age of 39 among rubble, with the illegal occupiers' tanks a permanent fixture, and 18-year old soldiers interrogating anyone they want. Can you feel the injustice burning inside you?

Your total denial of tens of thousands of innocent Arabs murdered by the Israeli government shows that you consider all Arabs to be terrorists.

I am against Israel's state terrorism because I am against perpatrators of mass murder, I am pro-women, pro-gay, pro-freedom, pro-union.

I am pro-truth, especially. Judging by your comments, Israeli Apologist, you will sacrifice the truth (deny the crimes committed by Israel) to support your cause. Why don't you go work on your Anti-Arab hate website?

Canadians Question Their PM's Support Of Israel

The Destruction Of Beirut Opened People's Eyes

The Massacre At The Small Coastal Village Of Tyre

Israelis Bombing Of Convoys And Orphanages Sicken Canadians

Execution Of Canadian Major Really Lit The Fire

Winds Of Discontent

Zionists have controlled Canadian politics for the last hundred years, but lately there is a sea change. The Izzy Aspers, and Bronfmans made or broke the politicians, but as Israel becomes more aggressive and lawless, the people are speaking up.

Canadians Take A Stand

A recent poll shows Stephen Harper's decision to support Israel is against the majority of Canadians. At the least they want to remain neutral.

Sick Of Bush

Canadians believe that the Conservative government is taking its cues from U.S. President George W. Bush.

32% Back Harper

According to the poll, 45 per cent of voters disagree with Mr. Harper's support of Israel's actions, while 32 per cent support it, and 23 per cent don't know or neither agree nor disagree.

In Quebec, 61 per cent are against the Harper position.

Quebec's Opposition Party

Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe has made an issue out of Harper being a Bush and Israel sycophant.

The Internet Is A Key Factor

Canadians, because of weather, remoteness, and lack of print publications, are extremely conscious of the internet news.

What Does It Mean?

Basically these pompous clowns can't get away with blindly obeying Canadians Jewish interests. Someday, someone sharp will come along, and use the internet as their campaign vehicle, and then you will see a revolution.

If you timed a campaign around an issue like Lebanon, the Major Hess-von Kruedener episode, and did it during an economic slowdown, there would be real fireworks.

I nthe end, the Arab-Israeli War is all just a vicious cycle, and nobody is blameless. Israel is just as guilty of war crimes against the Arab nations as the Muslum nut-jobs are. In '48, the Egyptians and Syrians wanted to send the Jews into exile again, in '67 the Arabs again wanted to send the Jews into exile but the Palestinians did instead. This blogdy bull-shit in the Middle-East has almost nothing to do with Canada yet it divides Canada into vicious camps. My fear will one day be that the War in the Middle East will one day pock-mark Canada.

Why were so many arabs killed should be the question?
Why did Isreal as you put it so well "illegally" occupy areas in gaza, the west bank and south lebbanon?
It wouldnt be beacause the arabs ATTACKED isreal would it?
Isreal does not attack unless invaded.
If arab terrorists kill or abduct isreali civilians isreal has the right to go in and attempt to kill the terrorists responsible.
True Isreal kills many innocent civilians but this is a neccisary loss.It is the Terrorist group's faults that Isreal is forced to attack.
I think only an anti-semite or soemone with few brains would fail to understand this.

At 3:54 p.m., Anonymous Israel is a terrorist state said...

For starters, Israel is spelled "Israel"; not, "Isreal". What was that about having few brains?...

For decades, the United Nations has been passing resolutions, condemning Israel for its illegal aggression & occupation of its Arab neighbours. Is the United Nations anti-semetic? Are protest groups such as Jews for a Just Peace, anti-semetic? Israel has been militarily controlling land that is not theirs for decades. Do you think terrorist organizations pop up like spam because Israel uses the $7 billion/year in U.S. military aid to occupy land that isn't theirs? yes.

Your argument of yelling, "Anti-semite!" everytime a legitimate criticism against Israel is brought to light is tired, so last decade.

I am not anti-semetic, but you are definitely anti-Arab if you can say that the thousands of innocent Arab civilians murdered by Israel is a "necessary loss".

It's "necessary" for Israel to get the f**k out of Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon. It's "necessary" for Israel to build their wall on Israeli land, not Palestinian land.

The 7 Canadians killed by an Israeli missile in Lebanon, was that "necessary"? Would you condemn Israel if the 7 people killed were Jewish instead of Canadian? Would that open your eyes?

R. Keurdian said... "The apartheid fence is built 200 miles into Palestinian land"

before you start typing, perhaps your should check your facts first. 200 miles from the "green line" (pre 67 defacto border) is the border of Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

The reason for all Israeli-Arab wars is that the Arabs refuse to accept Israel's right to exist.

If the Arabs did not use their land to stage attacks on Israel, there would be no need to Israel to occupy them

At 8:16 a.m., Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wldwest: the fact remains that the wall is built on some of the most fertile lands in the West Bank- which belongs to Occupied Palestine. Israel is deliberately driving out and isolating Palestinian communities along the apartheid fence, and they are building large settlements so the land would be given to Israel in a future peace agreement with Palestine.

Israel is not simply defending itself. It is trying to expand its borders. Occupied Palestine & Lebanon have a right to defend their land from Israeli aspirations of expansion.

You can see an article about Israel's apartheid wall at the link above

"Israelis hasten land grab in shadow of wall"

The bulldozers were preparing the ground for hundreds of new homes, despite the Israeli government's claim that it is not expanding Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Like other building work along the route of the barrier, it seems to be an attempt to ensure that the land between the fence and the 1967 border remains in Israeli hands in any final agreement with the Palestinians.

Last week the US national security council adviser on the Middle East, Elliott Abrams, told a closed meeting of Jewish leaders that Washington saw settlements to the east of the barrier as ultimately intended for removal. But he said Israel would be allowed to hold on those to the west, which include Zufim.

"The construction of this fence/wall in its current location must be halted immediately. As it continues to snake through Palestinian land, more and more Palestinians find themselves trapped into enclaves and cantons, unable to have any semblance of a normal life," Amnesty International.

I've got to hand it to you, wldwest. Even with all the evidence, reports, resolutions highlighting Israel as an aggressive occupier and terrorist state, you still manage to advocate for Israel's innocence. Denying such a substantial amount of truth and evidence takes discipline and blind reverence for Israel.

Please stay off the radio. Your writing is pedestrian and nothing really interesting, but at least it's competent. Your on-air skills are another matter, however. The fact that CKNW would allow a complete amateur to fill-in on-air proves that they have hit rock bottom. Anyone with any talent has left because CKNW doesn't pay. So now they're left with having to appeal to their friends and family to host their shows. We know you only got the gig because you and your husband Michael know Colin Metcalf and Christy Clark - both Gordon Campbell government hacks. I can't imagine a faster way for them to lose listeners. It's a sad sign of the times that they'd actually let you near an open mic.

Also, as presenter on CKNW
Erin asked good and relevant questions.

Whenever someone tries to

the Discouragement Fraternity

it all is. Because they're
envious and don't want the
new person to succeed.
If everybody had to have

a career, then there would
not be any jobs because
everybody has to have a first

positions people can learn on the job. Maybe not for
brain surgery but certainly
for being a radio presenter.

Erin will get paid from CKNW
and if the bosses there read this, I recommend that they double
her pay. Then she can
show you the check as proof that CKNW "pays".

I'm with Bernie. You did a very good job on 'NW a few weeks back. In point of fact, I wish you were LESS balanced on air and spoke there like you write here. Not everyone will agree with you, but that's the reality of being a human being in a democracy.

Regarding all the comments here, you have MUCH more patience than I do regarding the anonymous ones. I've long felt that if some creep is going to stay underneath his/her rock of anonymity and send hateful comments my way, then ... DELETE. Conversely, local Holocaust denier, Greg Felton, left some pretty terrible comments on my blog related to this same subject. But at least he had the guts to do so publicly.

Great post, Erin and you're right. The NDP has been taken over by the lunatic fringe (and provincially too--see Sherri DiNovo's deranged "ideas" from the pulpit of the United Church for instance. I tink she took too many acid from doze Bible, eh?)

And these nutty posters! Israel is building a fence 200 miles inside "Palestinian territory?" Is Israel even 200 miles across? I don't think it's 200 miles from the Mediterranean to the Jordan!

But then, that explains the complete ignorance. I've found a pattern! The less people know, the more passionately they hold their "beliefs." Those beliefs strangle their curiosity and make them extremists. The guy who complains about Bush's "for us or against us..." Can't he see he's exactly the same?

Wow! The NDP has fallen away from me big time. I used to vote NDP all the time, as did my grandparents. Not anymore!
