Oh Carole...Where ARE you???

One has to laugh. On March 29th, as we careened toward an election, I wrote a column about the missing-in-action Carole James. She had been elected NDP leader and then had disappeared completely off the political stage. Her quick to respond handlers asserted she was "traveling the province and building the party". Ok. Fine. I get that.

Then we had an election - she came out of the woodwork and, frankly, ran a pretty good effort for a neophyte politician. It was choppy at times and there was lots of internal NDP bickering about the strategy, but at the end of the day, she captured a whack more seats than anyone had expected.

So, one has to ask the question again: Where is Carole James? I've heard from Adrian Dix, the one-time fake memo boy who is scrambling for credibility by converting the tragic death of a baby in care into political mileage. I've heard from a couple of other NDP MLAs (though, interestingly enough, NOT David Chudnovsky about the potential BC Teacher's Fed job action).

But Carole, sweet Carole, has been nowhere to be found. I do hope someone has told her she can't keep hiding after the Legislature resumes in the fall...

Personally, I like it this way. I think there might very well be an obnoxious-voice gene with socialists. Carole James, Buzz Hargrove, Jim Sinclair, Anne MacLellan, Glen Clark...

Personally, I can no longer stand Carole James's voice.

Honestly, though, we've got to remember, this IS August. Were it not for the Governor General or Smockey Smith, we wouldn't hear anything from Paul Martin. August is what most journalists describe as the largest "down" month.

Just wait until the legislature sits again... she'll be back, obnoxious as ever.

If I were Carole James, I would insist that Adrian Dix keep the door to his office open at all times. He is going to spend virtually all of his time plotting to a) prevent her from loosening the party's ties to labour, and b) laying the groundwork for his own leadership run the second she shows a stitch of weakness and vulnerability.

Adrian learned at the feet of the master at knifing the leader and installing yourself, so he should be pretty good at it.

Awesome post and very good point.

Where the heck did she go?!

I worked for Tom Christensen's campagin during the election and we had a heck of a time making fun of her.

First time visitor – Great Blog ! Oddly I was just thinking the same thing; exactly where has Carole James gone? Clearly Adrian Dix has a five year old score to settle with the Lib’s and is wasting no time getting at it, not to mention overshadowing the new so called balanced NDP tone in the process.

speaking of the dipper leader, why are the dippers in BC so opposed to offshore exploration in the Queen Charlotte basin? Offshore oil exploration is probably saafer on wildlife than having hundreds of slack jawed pinkos from around the world trying to get in close enough with tour boats to make out with a seal.

But, see, making out with the seal is all-natural and organic and doesn't pollute!

Actually, the Royal Society of Canada appears to not have a problem with offshore oil drilling. I pointed this out to a radical environmentalist (his characterization) who attacked me, and he countered with, and I quote:

"I highly doubt that! Are you seriously telling me you're in favour of lifting the moratorium [on oil and gas exploration/drilling] when our coast is already being destroyed by dilling?."

My response, and I quote:

"Fuckin'... what?"

As for this:

"Oh Carole...Where ARE you???"

I say this:

"Oh, Erin, where are you?"

If your socialist friend had taken the time to inform himself, he'd realize the offshore oil and gas drilling is one of the least intrusive ocean activites.

As we learned in "Law of the Sea," the largest source of marine pollution was shore-sourced untreated sewage. That makes the largest marine polluter the state! 2nd highest? bilge/oil dumps from cruise ships and others!
